THE PROJECT

An existing shower room in South Tottenham stripped back and rebuilt as a fully tanked, level-access wet room, finished in large-format porcelain with wall-hung sanitaryware.

WHAT THE CLIENT WANTED

The existing shower room was cramped and dated. Stepping over a raised tray was becoming awkward, the enclosure was difficult to clean around, and the room felt closed in. The clients wanted something open and step-free that would still work for them in ten years' time — and, above all, a room they could trust not to leak into the floor below.

HOW WE RAN IT

Making a room step-free is a substrate job, not a fittings job, so most of the work happened before anything visible went in. The floor was taken back, built up and graded to fall towards a concealed linear drain set against the wall, then the walls and floor were fully tanked as one continuous system. Large-format porcelain in two tones keeps the grout lines to a minimum, and wall-hung sanitaryware leaves the floor clear so the whole room can be mopped in one pass.

GETTING THE FALLS RIGHT

The floor was built up and graded so water runs cleanly to the linear drain, then fully tanked before a single tile was laid. That is why the finished room is a properly waterproofed, level-access shower area with no tray to step over and no enclosure to clean around — easier to use, easier to keep clean, and far less likely to cause trouble further down the line.
